Steam rolled oats are a long-standing favourite in the horse world — and for good reason. By gently steaming and rolling whole oats, natural energy is unlocked and the oats are easier for horses to digest.

Steaming softens the oat husk, and rolling flattens the grain, making it easier for horses to chew and digest. This means more nutrients are absorbed, especially in horses with worn teeth or fussy eaters.

Oats are a natural source of non-heating energy. While they do contain starch, oats have one of the highest digestibility rates of all grains, providing controlled energy without the high fizz that comes from corn or barley.

Unlike heavily processed feeds, steam rolled oats are minimally processed, preserving natural goodness like fibre, protein, and key B vitamins.  Because oats are easier to digest, they can be a gentler choice for horses prone to digestive upset compared to whole or cracked grains.

Steam rolled oats can be fed alone, added to a mix, or used as a top-up energy source. Most horses find steam rolled oats highly palatable, making them a great option for adding weight or fuelling work.
